Kick-start your evening with a Half Six Fix concert. One piece in a 60-minute concert, introduced by the performers.

The Programme

Savour the perfect balance of sweet and bitter in Stravinsky’s time-warp drama for three voices, a quirky, romantic, commedia-del-arte fantasy.

In 1919, Russian impresario Diaghilev commissioned Stravinsky to put his own spin on 200-year-old music for a new ballet. Stravinsky was surprised by what he found in the earlier composer’s music: ‘I looked, and I fell in love.’

From an unlikely beginning, Stravinsky whipped up a delicious ballet featuring three solo singers, and added a dash of 20th-century irony. For the first performance, Picasso did the sets. In this concert, hear Stravinsky’s music, conducted and introduced by Barbara Hannigan.

The Performers

Known for her ground-breaking interpretations, LSO Associate Artist Barbara Hannigan conducts a trio of charismatic performers. Fleur Barron, Charles Sy and Sam Carl bring this drama of thwarted love to life.

Sweet eyes, bright with love, for you my heart languishes.

– Pulcinella

Due to scheduling issues, bass-baritone Sam Carl will be replaced by Douglas Williams for the performances of Stravinsky’s Pulcinella on 20 and 21 September 2023. The programme remains unchanged.
