The music of friends … and infinitely more. Life becomes art as Bertrand Chamayou, Tabea Zimmermann and Fleur Barron explore the chamber music of Brahms, Joachim and the Schumanns.
The Programme
In nineteenth century Germany, four artists found a shared mission – to live for music, and to plumb the depths of the human heart. Robert and Clara Schumann, Johannes Brahms and Joseph Joachim led lives that were inseparable, but through tragedy, love, heartbreak and triumph, they poured their souls into chamber music of profound beauty: music that never stops speaking of eternal truths and intimate emotions.
The Performers
Once again, pianist Bertrand Chamayou has gathered around him a little band of artists who are more than just colleagues. Viola player Tabea Zimmerman and mezzo-soprano Fleur Barron are commanding figures in their own right and both regard creative collaboration as central to their artistic lives. For Chamayou, who draws inspiration ‘from all forms of art and all kinds of music’, they’re natural partners.
Recorded for future broadcast on BBC Radio 3
