The Concert
Experience the sounds of Bali with the captivating music of the gamelan, an intricate percussion ensemble made up of metallophones and tuned gongs.
Combining the hypnotic rhythms of gamelan with the vibrant energy of traditional Indonesian dance, this breathtaking performance showcases an ancient and constantly-evolving artform. Three gamelan groups come together in this cross-arts celebration, directed by composer and gamelan expert Andy Channing.
The UK’s premier Balinese Gamelan group, Lila Cita, leads the way with the signature sound they’ve honed over 30 years. The Sekar Lukes Community Gamelan Group share the pieces they have worked on from their home at LSO St Luke’s, and Balinese dance group Lila Bhawa provide a captivating accompaniment to the musicians. With music and dance that crosses the borders of traditional and contemporary styles, join us in the Jerwood Hall for an unforgettable experience.
Concert supported by Adrian Browne and Libby Rice
