Throughout its history, people have imagined the future of music — from the promises of electronic music to bold predictions about the fate of tonality and art itself. Some visions now seem quaint, others uncannily accurate. Music appears to progress (and sometimes regress) in patterned ways, yet continually escapes our expectations with surprising turns.
Today, AI, immersive media, accessibility and global connectivity are reshaping how music is created, shared and experienced. This lecture explores past and present visions of music’s future and peers toward music’s distant, mysterious and beautiful horizon.
