Peter joined the LSO Trombone section when he was only 19 years old in 1968. He was Assistant Principal when he left the Orchestra in 1972.

Peter was a founder and former president of the British Trombone Association with many publications to his credit. He earned particular recognition for his work with young people and had a long-standing association with the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the European Union Youth Orchestra.

As a teacher, brass specialist and conductor he took masterclasses and workshops in many European conservatoires as well as in the US. In 1996 his international reputation was confirmed by the presentation of the Neill Humfeld Award for excellence in trombone teaching by the International Trombone Association. He became a professor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1971, was elected a Fellow of the School in 1981 and was Head of the Wind, Brass and Percussion department from 1988 to 2008.

We send our condolences to Peter’s family, friends and colleagues.
