The London Symphony Orchestra is deeply saddened by the passing of Lalo Schifrin – a legendary composer, conductor, and pianist who has worked with the Orchestra on numerous occasions.
Whether performing alongside the likes of Dizzy Gillespie and Xavier Cugat, or composing such iconic film and television scores as Enter the Dragon, Dirty Harry or the unforgettable Mission: Impossible theme, Lalo Schifrin was a singular voice in 20th-century music, blending classical tradition with the energy of jazz and the drama of cinema.
It was a true privilege for the LSO to perform alongside him in the studio and on stage, performing music that showcased his extraordinary versatility and imagination. His deep musicality, charisma, and innovative spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who had the honour of working with him.
We remember him not only as a musical pioneer, but as a generous collaborator and an artist of rare brilliance.
Our thoughts are with his wife Donna, his family, friends, and all those inspired by his remarkable legacy.
