The Concert

Night music and love songs – Mahler and Schumann at their romantic best.

The Music

Mahler’s Seventh Symphony is one his most imaginative – and unexpected – works, with two intimate ‘night music’ movements, an eerie pastiche of a waltz, and some surprising instrumental cameos, including guitar and mandolin.

Schumann’s only Piano Concerto takes listeners through three lyrical, fantasy-like movements. Building on an earlier piece dedicated to his wife, Clara, the Concerto includes some of Schumann’s most beautiful, accomplished and irresistible music.

The Performers

Star pianist Daniil Trifonov demonstrates his great love for the Romantic era, and Daniel Harding always brings thrilling new insights into Mahler’s symphonies. He leads a full complement of LSO players in the intriguing Seventh.
