The Concert

Bask in the Romantic flavours of Borodin’s folk-inspired Second Symphony, Stravinsky’s sublime neo-Classical homage to Tchaikovsky, and dazzling, deeply felt Chopin.

The Music

Inspired by a number of Tchaikovsky’s piano works and songs, The Fairy’s Kiss is Stravinsky’s ‘compatriot homage’ to his fellow countryman. The music is charming, romantic, and quotes frequently from the elder composer’s music.

The middle movement of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No 2 is amongst the composer’s most ravishing music, sparked by his unrequited love for soprano Konstancja Gladkowska. And Borodin’s Second Symphony is one of the most melodically rich in all of Russian music, its final movement overflowing with spirited energy.

The Performers

Pianist Seong-Jin Cho and conductor Gianandrea Noseda make a formidable partnership in this concert of richly Romantic classics, forming part of Seong-Jin Cho’s Artist Portrait series with the LSO.

[It possesses] a perfection almost ideal, its expression now radiant with light, now full of tender pathos.
