The Concert

Beatrice Rana takes on Rachmaninoff’s thrilling Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini before the composer’s monumental Symphony No 2, a programme rich in lyricism, virtuosity and symphonic grandeur.

The Music

Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini has captivated audiences since its premiere in 1934. Taking Niccolò Paganini’s famous Twenty-Fourth Caprice for solo violin as its starting point, the composer transforms the theme across twenty-four brilliantly inventive variations.

The contrasting second half features Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No 2, with a stirring Adagio at its centre.

The Performers

Chief Conductor of New York’s Metropolitan Opera, Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads this richly expressive Rachmaninoff programme, with Beatrice Rana bringing her superlative technique and dynamism to a work that showcases both virtuoso brilliance and expressive depth.
