In this Sunday matinee, Sir Antonio Pappano conducts the London Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven’s rarely heard Triple Concerto, a fascinating work written for an unprecedented combination of solo instruments.

Here, it is performed by three of the world’s finest players: violinist Maxim Vengerov, appearing in his third and final season as a Carnegie Hall Perspectives artist; cellist Alisa Weilerstein, a ‘technically flawless and deeply expressive’ (The New York Times) virtuoso; and pianist Kirill Gerstein, a musician with blazing technique [and] wonderful command of colour and nuance’ (The Wall Street Journal). The program also features Richard Strauss’ audaciously autobiographical Ein Heldenleben (A Hero’s Life).
