The Concert

Tchaikovsky juggles beauty and suffering and Beethoven marries tenderness and high spirits. Sir Antonio Pappano conducts, in the LSO’s annual visit to the Brighton Festival.

The Music

There’s pathos and grandeur in equal measure in Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto, its slow movement one of the composer’s most achingly divine.

The concert ends with Tchaikovsky’s journey to the depths of the soul. Despite ending on a note of utter despair, the ‘Pathétique’ is among the composer’s most beautiful works.

The Performers

The LSO is sure to draw high emotion from Tchaikovsky, while pianist Denis Kozhukhin joins Chief Conductor Sir Antonio Pappano for Beethoven’s engaging and original gem.

The ‘Pathétique’ Symphony features some of Tchaikovsky’s most heartrending music.
