Vilde Frang is soloist for Beethoven’s deeply moving Violin Concerto while Tchaikovsky navigates anguish and triumph.
The Music
Beethoven’s Violin Concerto stands as a singular masterpiece of poetic beauty, balancing grand orchestral scale with moments of serenity and intimate melody. Composed in 1888, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 5 uses some of the composer’s most beautiful music to take us from the darkest depths to life-affirming heights.
The Performers
Joining the LSO is Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang, bringing a touch of her magic to Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. In the second half, Sir Antonio Pappano leads Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony, bringing his rich experience with Russian music to bear on this late-Romantic work.
