The Concert

Kick-start your evening with a Half Six Fix concert, showcasing two works by Vaughan Williams. Introduced by the performers, with screens in the hall to bring you closer to the action.

The Music

Completed in 1936, Dona nobis pacem is scored for choir, vocal soloists and orchestra. A call for peace, the cantata draws on Vaughan Williams’ own experiences of war, and eyes the impending cataclysm. It’s emotionally direct: passionate, anguished and, at times, almost unbearably beautiful.

Setting words from the biblical poem ‘Song of Songs’, Flos Campi (Flower of the Field) is love song of often beguiling beauty showcasing the unusual but intoxicating combination of orchestra, solo viola and wordless chorus.

The Performers

The LSO and Sir Antonio Pappano continue their exploration of Vaughan Williams’ works, alongside LSO Spotlight Artist Antoine Tamestit and the London Symphony Chorus.

Antoine Tamestit, the great viola virtuoso, is somebody very special. He makes his instrument sing and tell stories.
