Obituary: Alfred Brendel, 1931–2025

The London Symphony Orchestra is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of the legendary pianist Alfred Brendel.

Published:

It was an honour for the LSO to share the stage with him across the decades – from performances at the Royal Albert Hall in the 1960s, to collaborations with Claudio Abbado and Sir Colin Davis, Gala Concerts at the Barbican, and a focus on Mozart’s Piano Concertos in the 2000s. We also had the pleasure of working together on recordings, including music by Richard Strauss, Mozart and Schumann.

Alfred Brendel’s artistry and intellect leave an enduring legacy, which will continue to inspire musicians and audiences around the world. He will be greatly missed, and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
