Musical Inclusion
Our inclusive and creative music-making project for young people in specialist settings across East London.
Our Musical Inclusion Programme works with Special Schools, Pupils Referral Units and specialist departments of mainstream schools in East London to deliver participation and performance activities designed specifically for young people within those settings. We encourage creative music-making, providing the time, specialist skills and resources to ensure engagement for all involved.
We would like to extend our thanks to (LSO Animateur) Mark Withers and the LSO musicians for being so incredibly understanding of our children’s complex needs. The transition from the Barbican concert to the in-school workshops was seamless and has left a lasting impact on our Resource Provision staff’s confidence in using music as a daily tool. How It Works
Teachers from participating schools are invited to attend a CPD session led by LSO Animateur Mark Withers and LSO players. The CPD is focused on specific themes and repertoire which inform in-school engagement. Workshops then take place in the school settings with young people, with teachers and support staff working alongside the LSO team throughout. Projects culminate in a sharing of the students’ work with the wider school community. Participation in the programme also includes access to one of our termly Key Stage Concerts at the Barbican.
Take Part
Musical Inclusion is open to SEND and PRU schools & settings in the following locations: Bexley, Barking & Dagenham, Greenwich, Hackney, Havering, Lewisham, Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest. All nominations to take part are made through the relevant partner Music Education Hub lead organisations. Please contact them direct to express interest or discuss eligibility.
