Jonasz Szachtmajer
I am incredibly grateful to be joining the LSO Conservatoire Scholarship programme. The support will give me the freedom to dedicate myself fully to music making, while taking the next step in developing my voice as an artist.
Jonasz Szachtmajer is a Polish violinist from Warsaw, currently pursuing a Master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music in London under the tutelage of So-Ock Kim.
Jonasz has performed alongside renowned artists including Yo-Yo Ma, Gil Shaham, Daniil Trifonov, Sir Mark Elder, John Wilson and Lawrence Power, and has worked with orchestras including the Czech Philharmonic, under Semyon Bychkov as part of the Side by-Side project, and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
His performances have taken him to major venues including Carnegie Hall, Koerner Hall, the Rudolfinum, Bohemian National Hall, St John’s Smith Square and the Royal Festival Hall. His recent solo and chamber engagements include recitals at the Maciej Paderewski International Festival in Warsaw, the Winchester Chamber Music Festival and the Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival in Lucca.
Jonasz has participated in masterclasses with artists including Ning Feng, Anthony Marwood, Lawrence Power, Olga Sitkovetsky, Krzysztof Węgrzyn, Andrzej Bielow and Mariusz Patyra, and has worked in chamber music with Corina Belcea, the Castalian Quartet, the Fibonacci Quartet and the Doric String Quartet.
Jonasz’s musical development has been supported by numerous scholarships and awards, including the Leverhulme Trust Arts Scholarship, the Countess of Munster Musical Trust, the Fernside Trust Award and the Albert Cooper Charitable Trust. He has also been awarded the Grand Prix at the Only Music Competition in Warsaw in 2022, Fourth Prize at the Swiss International Music Competition in 2022, and Second Prize at the 4th Concorso Internazionale di Esecuzione Musicale ‘Città di Sarzana’ in Italy in 2021.
