‘A long time ago I was asked last minute to join a string quartet touring in Spain. The cellist was Tim Hugh, who was Principal Cello of the LSO for many years. He told me I should audition for the LSO so I did!’

David Ballesteros is Co-Leader at bandArt chamber orchestra, Guest Concertmaster in orchestras in the UK and Spain and coach at the Verbier Junior Festival Orchestra. He manages and participates in social integration projects in hospitals, prisons as well as with marginalised people or those with special needs. As a soloist he has played in Europe, the US, China and Korea. In 2009 he premiered Jose Brito’s Violin Concerto with the Paris Sinfonietta. A keen chamber musician and founder of Ensemble Hespérides, he also collaborates with Lisarco Danza and Danzalab.

He has been a professor at the Simon Bolivar Orchestra (Venezuela), Barrios Orquestados (Canary Islands), New World Symphony Orchestra (US), Catalonian Youth and Spanish National Youth Orchestras and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, among other institutions. Born in the Canary Islands, he studied violin with Oscar Hernández, Franco Gulli and Josef Gingold, chamber music with Bernard Greenhouse and orchestral conducting with Karl Roskott.
