In tandem with his Artist Portrait series with the LSO, the charismatic viola soloist Antoine Tamestit curates a complementary chamber music series with a cast of his closest musical friends.
Today Tamestit joins forces with Jörg Widmann to perform repertoire for clarinet, viola and piano. They open with a selection of Bruch’s Eight Pieces for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, filled with lush harmonies and emotional intensity. Widmann then performs his own composition Fantasie – a journey into the Romantic sound world, with detours into dance, klezmer and jazz music.
The programme takes an experimental turn with Kurtág’s spiky Hommage à Robert Schumann, and Tamestit and Widmann conclude with Mozart’s ‘Kegelstatt’ Trio, a work brimming with elegance and grace.
