In this series, soloists and ensembles tease out the wit, warmth and wisdom of Haydn's music, pairing his greatest chamber works with pieces that bear the traces of his influence.
Acclaimed pianist Jean-Efflam Bavouzet presents a performance of contrasts. Opening with Haydn’s lively Sonata in A-flat major, which boasts a particularly energetic final movement. Clementi’s Sonata in A major follows, music that is certainly full of twists, turns and surprises.
In the concert’s finale – Liszt’s Grosses Konzertsolo – the composer packs all the drama, harmonic density and melancholy of the Romantic period into this ambitious piano work.
