Listen to a sneak preview of Pelléas et Mélisande, Simon's forthcoming
LSO Live release
Captured in January 2016, during performances of an innovative collaboration between Rattle and Peter Sellars, two of the boldest creative minds in music and theatre today, this recording is a moving statement of intent for Simon's tenure as LSO Music Director. Performed to rave reviews, it features a stellar cast, with Christian Gerhaher singing Pelléas and the brilliant Magdalena Kožená in the role of Mélisande.
Rattle describes Pelléas et Mélisande as 'more drug than music', and its addictive, mysterious soundworld could only have been created by Claude Debussy. Dive into this wonderful recording, and make sure to check back during This Is Rattle, as we delve deeper the Debussy's only completed opera.
