LSO Academy

Each year the LSO Academy provides up to 30 promising young instrumentalists aged 14–24 with a unique opportunity to work with the great orchestral musicians of their time in a week of orchestral-focused workshops and masterclasses at LSO St Luke’s.

The LSO Academy focuses on a different section of the orchestra each year. Future Academies will take place as follows:
2018: Strings
2019: Woodwind
2020: Brass

2017 Academy: Timpani and Percussion

The 2017 Academy took place at LSO St Luke's on 15–19 July 2017.

The course was directed by Principal Percussionist Neil Percy, Co-Principal Percussionist Sam Walton, and Principal Timpanist Nigel Thomas. The Academy tutors guided students through an inspirational week of specialist masterclasses and intensive orchestral repertoire sessions, alongside workshops to explore ensemble performance in fresh and exciting ways.

2016 Academy: Brass
