LSO Discovery Conducting Scheme

‘One of the most exhilarating musical experiences of my life to date’
2011 masterclass participant

Each year three young conductors are selected to work with the London Symphony Orchestra under the guidance of LSO Principal Conductor Valery Gergiev or President Sir Colin Davis. The three aspiring professionals conduct the LSO for one third of a three hour orchestral session.

2012 Masterclass

The three aspiring professionals, Gergely Madaras, James Ham and Marcio da Silva, will take part in a public masterclass with Sir Colin Davis on Thursday 22 March 2012 at LSO St Luke’s. The conductors will observe Sir Colin rehearsing with the LSO before meeting him to discuss the repertoire chosen for the masterclass and their specific approach.

Repertoire for the masterclass will be Beethoven Leonore Overture No 2, and Nielsen Symphony No 2 movements 1 and 3.

Past Masterclasses: 2011

The 2011 Masterclass took place on Saturday 5 February 2011 at LSO St Luke’s with Sir Colin Davis. The three participants, Ben Gernon, Eduardo Portal and Sergey Smbatyan, each conducted the London Symphony Orchestra during the three hour public masterclass.
