Brunel Institute for Contemporary Middle-Eastern Music
This new Institute will be the first of its kind in the world. As well as archiving, and acting as a resource for, Middle-Eastern contemporary music, it will act as a hub for bringing into dialogue Middle-Eastern and Western music and musicians

The Integration of Middle-Eastern and Western Music
Chaired by Professor Peter Wiegold with guest speakers including Christopher Fox (UK), Zaid Jabri (Syria) and Amr Okba (Egypt).
How composers have approached an integration through shared or appropriated languages or harmony, rhythm, scales/maqam and form including issues of process, values and ownership.

7.30pm: Concert
Acclaimed contemporary ensemble notes inégales, directed by Peter Wiegold, is joined by traditional Middle Eastern musicians and Egyptian singer Merit Ariane Stephanos in world premières of music by Kareem Roustom (Syria), Zaid Jabri (Syria) and Peter Wiegold, with UK premières of music by Halim El Dabh (Egypt), Özkan Manav (Turkey), Bushra El Turk (Lebanon) and Samir Odeh-Tamimi (Palestine/Israel)
