Glinka’s thrilling overture is said to have been influenced by the clatter of cutlery the composer experienced at a wedding dinner. Rimsky-Korsakov’s dazzling and oriental-influenced score is based on the tales of The Arabian Nights, told by the Sultana Scheherazade to her new husband.
Change of soloist and programme
Pianist Yuja Wang is indisposed and has had to withdraw from the LSO concert on 25 March. We are most grateful to violinist Alina Ibragimova for agreeing to appear at short notice as soloist for the evening, performing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. (Notification posted 11am 23/03/12)
