Music Technology Workshops

Audioactive

For GCSE and A-level students.

Explore the concepts of contemporary composition and sonic art through a hands-on electro-acoustic workshop. Catering for up to 16 people the Audioactive workshop involves everyone in making music. Instruments range from usual to the unusual, the everyday to the bizarre, and include:

  • The theremin – the first electronic instrument ever created
  • The cracklebox – the unstable electronic circuit that you play with your fingers
  • Games joysticks – but not for playing the X-box, these ones make sounds
  • Dance mat – also taken from the games world, but now triggers samples of the LSO
  • Interactive white board – scratch video with your fingers on a plasma screen
  • Acoustic and electric instruments – bring your own and join in
  • Voice – let’s not forget the oldest instrument on the planet. Spoken word, singing, gibberish etc

Participants collaborate with the workshop leader and each other to devise a piece of music.
