Make your mark - leave your own musical legacy

By remembering the LSO in your Will you are helping to ensure that the LSO maintains its high-quality artistic programme and that its pioneering education and community projects continue to thrive for years to come. Every contribution is appreciated whatever the size.

Recent bequests have helped to support the LSO's core artistic work, as well as funding the commissioning of new repertoire, schools concerts, composition workshops in local London schools, and inspirational events for young instrumentalists that enable them to play alongside LSO musicians on the Barbican stage.

The LSO, as a registered charity, can receive residuary legacies (a proportion of the remainder of your estate once specific legacies have been fulfilled), pecuniary legacies (a defined sum of money) or a specific legacy such as an instrument or property.

Depending on your wishes and interests, you can elect to support the LSO Endowment, LSO Discovery Endowment or LSO Limited, each funding different areas of our work. You can read more about the role of each on this page.

If you do not already have a Will, we would first suggest making an appointment with your solicitor. Examples of Will wording can be found here, which you might find helpful when seeking legal advice.

If you have an existing Will your solicitor can add a written instruction called a Codicil, to include new legacies.

‘I want to make giving 10 per cent of your legacy to charity the new norm in our country.’
George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer

In order to encourage more charitable legacies the Legacy10 campaign has recently been launched. From April 2012, those that leave more than 10 per cent of their estate to charity will see their inheritance tax rate reduced by 10 per cent, from 40 per cent to 36 per cent.

If you decide to leave a gift to the LSO, we would be very pleased to hear from you. While there is no obligation to let us know your intentions we would like to have the chance to thank you for your kindness, keep you informed of the LSO's work, and ensure that your wishes are carried out accurately. You can be assured that your contribution will be valued and put to good use.

LSO Ltd is a registered charity no 232391.
LSO Endowment Trust is a registered charity no 233700.
