Instrumental Bursary Scheme

An exciting opportunity for young string players from Islington and Hackney.

Through LSO Discovery, the annual Sir Clive Gillinson Instrumental Bursary Scheme offers talented and enthusiastic young string players the opportunity to enhance and develop their musical education.

String players who live or study in Islington or Hackney, aged 11 years upwards, with at least ABRSM Grade 5 (or equivalent), are invited to apply.

Students are accepted on to the scheme for a year, during which they are offered a unique package of activities with LSO Discovery, specially tailored to suit their needs. All students are paired with an LSO player mentor, who offers general musical guidance across the year, as well as leading individual and group coaching sessions. Other activities can include access to LSO rehearsals, concerts and other special events, and involvement with a wide range of LSO Discovery projects and resources.

We invite all applicants to attend a Strings Workshop. This is a fun and informal opportunity to meet LSO string players and play music for strings with other young people.

The application deadline for the 2013 programme has now passed. Information and details about the 2014 programme will appear on the website at a later date.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact a member of the LSO Discovery Schools team by emailing Andrew Uttley or calling 020 7382 2505.

The Sir Clive Gillinson Instrumental Bursary Scheme is generously supported by The Candide Trust.
