LSO St Luke's
BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert: Wihan Quartet
LSO St Luke's Tenth Birthday Festival
Overview

Wihan Quartet
MOZART String Quartet in D minor, K421
DVORAK String Quartet in F major, Op 96 (‘American’)
Wihan Quartet
According to his wife Constanze, the rising figures of Mozart’s String Quartet in D minor corresponded to her frequent cries from the room next door. Although composed while Dvořák was on holiday in a predominantly Bohemian farming community in Iowa, his ‘American’ String Quartet mimics the birdsong of the native Scarlet Tanager which Dvořák heard while out hiking in the countryside.
