BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concert: Wendy Dawn Thompson
Schumann Song Cycles - NB: Change of soloist
Overview

Lunchtime concert
SCHUMANN Three Mary Stuart songs
SCHUMANN Frauenliebe und -leben
MAHLER Urlicht; Ich atmet’ einen linden Duft; Liebst du um Schönheit; Ich bin der Welt abhanden gekommen
Wendy Dawn Thompson mezzo-soprano
Eugene Asti piano
Schumann’s Mary Stuart songs form vignettes from the life of Mary Stuart: her farewell to France, ascension to the Scottish throne, the birth of her son James, her imprisonment in England and finally the time of her execution. Mahler’s songs evoke images of fragrant lime trees and traditional German folk dances. Schumann’s Frauenliebe und leben follow the course of a woman’s love for husband, from first meeting through to after his death.
Tickets: £10 (£9 concessions)
Change of soloist
Sarah Connolly has unfortunately had to withdraw from this concert due to illness. We are most grateful to Wendy Dawn Thompson for agreeing to appear at short notice. The programme is very slightly revised from that originally published.
