The first in a series of BBC Radio 3 Lunchtime Concerts exploring music by Bach, Britten and Shostakovich, this programme pairs Britten’s Suite, a work of youthful experimentation which concludes in a witty take on the traditional waltz, with Shostakovich’s final composition, written while the composer was suffering from the lung cancer he died of just days later.
