The LSO was saddened to hear of the death of conductor Sir Andrew Davis, a central figure in British music for many decades.

The LSO enjoyed rewarding collaborations with Sir Andrew Davis through the 1970s, 1980s and 2000s, with performances in London – at the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican and St Paul’s Cathedral, as well as outdoor concerts at Kenwood Lake and Crystal Palace – and on tour. We greatly admired his work with the BBC Symphony, Melbourne Symphony and Toronto Symphony Orchestras, among others, and his contributions to opera at Glyndebourne and Chicago Lyric Opera.

He will be greatly missed, and we send our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
