LSO Discovery Day: Dmitri Shostakovich
Find out more about the life and music of Shostakovich with access to an LSO rehearsal and a chamber music session with LSO players
10am–1pm, Barbican Hall
Gianandrea Noseda joins the LSO to rehearse Shostakovich Symphony No 6. You will also get to hear Britten's Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes, and Sinfonia Da Requiem, as well as Prokofiev Piano Concerto No 3 played by Nikolai Lugansky.
Unlike our Open Rehearsals, as part of the Discovery Day experience, audience members have the opportunity to observe the conductor and Orchestra from the Stalls, giving a unique and more intimate insight into the workings of an LSO rehearsal.*
2.30–5.30pm, Jerwood Hall, LSO St Luke’s
The afternoon will begin with a joint talk from Soviet music experts David Fanning and Michelle Assay. This will be followed by the introduction and brief analysis of Shostakovich Quartet No 6 performed by LSO players David Worswick, Rhys Watkins (violins), Robert Turner (viola) and Minat Lyons (cello).
*All events are subject to change without prior notice. Please be aware that the conductor may not rehearse the pieces in their entirety
Tickets: £17 (£13.50 concessions). Afternoon only from 2.30pm: £12 (no concessions)
