Bernard Haitink returns to direct one of the world’s finest Mozart interpreters in a concerto Mozart wrote for himself to play at the height of his success. Wind sonorities, especially flute and clarinet, enhance this concerto, and the flute also features prominently in Debussy’s luminous Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune. The programme concludes with Brahms’s final symphony, a piece of captivating beauty and richness of colour.
